Frequently asked questions

What Vertigo measures, which markets it covers, and how accounts and alerts work.

What is the fall from the high?

It is how far an asset sits below its highest close ever, as a percentage. 0% means it is at its high today. −30% means it is worth 30% less than its peak: to get back there it would have to rise by about 43%.

How do you compute it?

We take the highest close in all the history we have for that asset and compare it with the latest close. We use one close a day, not the highs and lows reached during the day, and we keep every asset in the currency it is quoted in. If the history starts only a few years back, the high is also the highest of those years.

What is the difference between the fall on the price and the fall with dividends?

On the price, only what the stock is worth counts, and that is how crashes are usually measured. With dividends reinvested, every gross dividend is put back into the stock at the close before its ex date, so for a stock that pays dividends the fall is smaller. Crypto pays no dividends and has a single reading; for some listings the dividend data is missing. You can switch from one reading to the other on the asset page.

Which markets do you cover?

Stocks and ETFs listed on these markets: United States, Xetra, Milan, Paris, Amsterdam, and London. On top of that, the main stock market indices and the main cryptocurrencies.

How often are prices updated?

Once a day. Vertigo works on daily closes, not real time prices: the fall you see refers to the latest close we have, sometimes the one from the day before.

Why can't I find a stock?

We only show stocks listed on the markets we cover, so a stock listed elsewhere does not appear in the search. If a fund does not come up when you search for its name, try its ticker or its ISIN, the 12 character code you find on the fund's factsheet or on your broker's statement.

Do I need an account?

No, you need nothing to see how far an asset has fallen. A free account lets you save a watchlist and get alerts by email. You sign in with a link by email or with Google, with no password. Create a free account.

How do alerts work?

On an asset in your watchlist you choose how far it has to fall, counting from its all time high or from its latest close. Every evening, after the markets close, we look at the new closes and write to you once, when the fall reaches your level, not every evening while it stays there. If the stock climbs back and then falls again, the alert can fire again. Alerts always count the fall on the price, without dividends.

How many assets can I follow?

With a free account you get one watchlist of up to 10 assets and 3 alerts. With Vertigo Pro you get up to 10 watchlists of 20 assets each, with an alert on every asset you follow.

What does Vertigo Pro add?

More watchlists, each with its own name, an alert on every asset you follow, and the portfolio: you import it and see how far it has fallen from its high, what is really inside your ETFs and where your funds overlap. Free and Pro side by side on the Pro page.

How much does it cost and how does it renew?

9.99 EUR a year, VAT included. The subscription renews by itself every year until you cancel it, and you can cancel it whenever you like from your account page. Within 14 days of the first payment you can also withdraw and get a full refund. The rest is in the conditions of sale.

What do I need for the portfolio?

Only the holdings and their quantities, up to 30 holdings. We do not ask how much you invested or at what price you bought. You can import them from a CSV file, with the quantities copied from your broker's positions screen, or add them one at a time.
